Seborrhoeic skin disease in pets — characterized by excessive scaling, greasy or flaky coat, and abnormal skin cell turnover — is a chronic condition that requires ongoing management rather than a one-time treatment. Whether primary (genetic) or secondary to allergies, hormonal imbalances, or nutritional deficiencies, seborrhoea compromises skin barrier function, creates an environment prone to secondary infection, and causes significant discomfort.
Ceva DOUXO S3 SEB is a veterinary dermatology formula for seborrhoeic skin conditions in dogs and cats. The SEB line contains phytosphingosine and salicylic acid alongside Ceva's Ophytrium technology to normalize sebaceous gland activity, remove excess scale, and restore healthy skin cell turnover. Available as a shampoo (200 ml) and mousse (150 ml).
Phytosphingosine: A sphingoid base naturally present in the skin that plays a central role in ceramide synthesis and skin barrier repair. In seborrhoeic skin, phytosphingosine normalizes lipid production and reduces the abnormal cell shedding that produces scale.
Salicylic acid (0.5%): A keratolytic agent that gently loosens and removes excess scale and sebum buildup, improving coat appearance and reducing the substrate available for secondary bacterial and yeast colonization.
Ophytrium: Supports microbiome balance and barrier integrity, addressing the underlying skin vulnerability in seborrhoeic patients.
Seborrhoeic conditions in dogs are frequently secondary to atopy or food allergy — managing the underlying trigger is essential for long-term control. DOUXO S3 SEB is a valuable component of an integrated management plan, but owners should be counselled that it manages rather than cures the condition. Regular bathing (typically every 1–2 weeks) combined with fatty acid supplementation for barrier support often yields the best cosmetic and clinical outcomes in seborrhoeic dogs.
SEB is formulated for seborrhoeic conditions — flaking, scaling, and greasy skin. PYO contains antiseptic agents (chlorhexidine, climbazole) to fight active bacterial and yeast infections. SEB does not have significant antiseptic action. For dogs with both seborrhoea and secondary infection, PYO is typically used first to clear the infection, then SEB for ongoing maintenance.
Yes — the formula is safe for both dogs and cats. Use the mousse for cats that are difficult to bathe.
Most pets show noticeable improvement in scale and coat quality within 3–4 weeks of regular use. Greasy seborrhoea typically responds faster than dry/flaky forms.
